Economic Development

Our Purpose:

Preserve and improve the economic prosperity of the Joplin region.

Programs:

• Public Policy
• Eggs/Issues Objective - Serve as the business advocate in the Joplin area, influencing governmental action that is beneficial to our members at the local, state, and federal levels.
• Transportation Task Force Objective - Promote better transportation systems for the benefit of Chamber members and the community.
•  Tech-Incubator Task Force Objective - Support development of small, technology oriented companies by restoring new, Chamber-owned property for use as an incubator-type facility.

• Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation Purpose - Promote charitable endeavors which fall within the mission of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, with special emphasis on supporting charitable, cultural, and educational programs and projects through which the community's quality of life will be enhanced. Obtain ownership of the innovation center facility and property and support the task force in the renovation of the structure.
• Joplin Business and Industrial Development Corporation Purpose - Provide a continuing revenue source to support the economic development efforts in the Joplin area, and to finance and market the speculative shell building. Board members are elected from contributors to JBIDC. Chamber staff serves as staff to JBIDC.
• Joplin Capital Corporation Purpose - Furnish small business loans and/or equity for projects that could not be financed through conventional means. Chamber staff supports and promotes JCC.
• Joplin Industrial Development Authority Purpose - Administer the issuance of industrial revenue bonds within the incorporated limits of the City of Joplin. Continue development and marketing of the Crossroads Business Park and maintenance of Joplin-Webb City Industrial Park. Appointments to the Authority are made by the City Council. Chamber staff is staff for JIDA.
• Joplin Convention & Visitors Bureau Purpose - Promote tourism, conventions and related activities. The Mayor appoints the seven board members, who consist of four hotel/motel representatives, one restaurant representative, one Chamber representative and one member at large. Chamber staff has an ex-officio position on the Board.
• Main Street Joplin Purpose - Market and foster the development of the core downtown business district. Chamber staff is staff for Main Street Joplin Board.
• Vision 20/20 Purpose - Oversee the implementation of the recommendations of the Vision Joplin master plan for the Joplin region. Serve as the focal point for long-range community planning and direction across all sectors, including economic, downtown, transportation and community development, medical care, social services and arts, culture and recreation.
